UNITING TOGETHER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR MANABIYA SAROKAR KENDRA ORPHANAGE IN NEPAL

On August 23, 2012, Chicago, IL, a fundraiser benefiting Manabiya Sarokar Kendra orphanage in Nepal
was held at Untitled, a swanky River North bar.

The fundraiser was attended by close to 200 esteemed guests. Those in attendance had an opportunity to peruse an exhibit by international street portrait photographer Eli Mavrick and listen to an electrifying violinist Katarina Visnevska. The event also included a raffle, professional photography and beverages.

The chair of the event, Zoryana Yavovski in her brief speech spoke of her firsthand experience, while visiting the orphanage in September 2011, of the crude reality where children were forced to act like adults and live in horrid conditions. Their day would begin at dawn; performing manual labor, diet only limited to nutrition lacking rice and daal twice a day, and end with bug ridden beds.

The event was sponsored by Arts4Kids Foundation, Arts n Spirits, Anthony Vince Salon & Spa, Café Ba-Ba-Reba, Elite Motors, Emerald Smoke, Hooters, Hubbard Inn, L’or D’Afrique, MMA & Fitness, My Big Splash LLC, Mythos Greek Taverna, Photo Affair Studio, Protein Bar, Ravinia, Romantika Lingerie, Russian Pointe, Steve Starr Studios, The Art of Tailoring, Union Sushi + Barbeque Bar. Media sponsor: Kontinent Media Group.

Judy Fitzgerald, fundraiser mc, remarked that it was an honor to be part of an event benefiting such a great cause. She furthered expressed her appreciation to event host committee and for an overwhelming support by the sponsors and guests.

Nepal is amongst the poorest and least developed countries in the world, with 42 percent of its population living below the poverty line. The number of abandoned, orphaned children in Nepal per capita is one of the highest in the world. The conditions in which they live are not only horrific but also heartbreaking.
